Building a poultry pen,security question

Hi all,I’m going to build on an extension to my pen to give a bit more room . Previously I dug a trench roughly a foot deep and concreted in the netting wire but this was a lot of work and I don’t have time to do it this time round. My question is say if i strimmed the ground down till it’s bare on the perimeter where the wire would be and then i flared the wire out and pegged it down well then let the grass/briars etc grow up through it so it wouldn’t be very obvious how far the wire is actually flared out to something trying to dig it’s way in would this be secure enough?how far out would it need to be flared? Any advice welcome

Bob; Some say a foot out. I've seen it said two. Personally? I'd go with a foot.

What I Actually do is, I have an electric mesh fence. Round the lot. So, in your case? I'd probably ring fence the coop. Allowing as much room as ye can spare, inside that perimeter.

This would've saved ye So Much concrete! Easier to move, too! :D

Yes, a mesh skirt is more effective than going down. A hungry fox will dig a long way down but they never seem to think to go back to start digging. I normally go back 2ft, often more depending on what mesh I've got around, as I normally re-use old mesh.
