chicken behaviour after dog attack

one of the chickens that was attacked by the dog is recovering well, but she obviously hurt both her legs in the attack as she hasnt walked properly since, today i noticed her as if she was sitting on her bum and pulling herself around, is this normal or would there be a problem with her vent, even though i cant see anything wrong. Thanks

It's not normal anne, you should either take her to the vet and get her sorted, or if that's not an option - cull her. You obviously love your hens, but ultimately it's your call.

can u isolate her from the other hens a quiet box or something and maybe handfeed her for a couple of days, might have strained a muscle in her legs, if that dosen't do you will probably have to cull her, sorry but she could be in a lot of pain

The rest are doing good healing well eating and drinking as normal, the only thing is they havnt ventured out from their enclosure since the attack, having said that its inside in a shed in a corner where probably not alot of light gets in so tomorrow im going to let in a bit more light and hopefully they will venture out and do the normal things they do, its great to see such an improvement in only a week even though i lost my molly, i guess they still feel incecure as a result of the attack and hopefully they'll over come that to.

id go to the vet, with treatment she could be a lot better in a wk, leave her untreated for a wk and it could be passed treating.
is she eating properly and passing. some prey animals are good at hiding pain as sign of weakness makes them easy prey, not sure if this applys to chickens.
i know when i lost hens to a fox the 1 hen that surrvived was shook for a few days and followed us around for company and safety, the last duck took it worse but she was always a flighty bird. you know your hen better then anyone if shes not happy then i think vet.
culling is an option but by the sounds of it your like me and want to give her a chance

Thomaswhi how would i know she was in pain? Would she have any signs, she talks away all the time, i still have the infra red lamp on them at night as i think it helps their recovery as they dont have to generate their own heat, eating up all their energy in doing so.

Anne, it is hard to know, but her behaviour suggests she is, if you try and pick her up and she reacts to been touched I mean more than normal then that is an indicator, if her legs are hurt try feeling them gently to feel for heat in them another good indicator, how is she today

Shes not to bad, i went to the vets today and he gave me baytril and suggested that she might need treating for parasites, even though i dont think she has any , anyhow ill treat her now that i have the stuff for it and hopefully she'll be better in a few days. She dos'nt seem to react to being picked up any more than usual, she has lost weight though so maybe she has, ill get on it tomorrow.
